The choice depends on the interest one has and the level of knowledge one wishes to acquire on the subject. They can be classified into five categories: - Photographic books: they feature magnificent photographs showing the volcanoes at their best. They include some volcanology information. In bookstores and major retailers in the region, this is a way to build a library of images on the subject. Still expensive. The information contained is of varying levels, always accessible to the general public. Most of the time designed in booklet form, they are affordably priced. - Scientific works and theses: more expert-level access, they are in principle reserved for academics and scientists working on the subject, but they provide numerous data for those who want to deepen their knowledge. Since distribution is limited, they are not always available. Moreover, the prices of some works can be high. - Scientific works for a broader audience than the previous ones: few in number, aimed at informed amateurs or teachers, they provide high-quality basic knowledge on Auvergne volcanic dynamics. Carefully written by very skilled local scientists, they provide reference information. They are always sold in bookstores (or at the Volcan Parks' visitor center) at reasonable prices. - Novels by regional authors: they do not have the same purpose as the previous ones, but through the story, they often show how closely the Auvergnats have connected with the volcanoes. - Magazines: they are few in number, but one can mention the quality magazines of the L.A.V.E. The micro-walks (maximum 1 hour) focus on specific themes (discovering the summit of Puy-de-Dôme, lava-related professions, the water of the volcanoes...)   The 'Volcanology of the Chaîne des Puys' cannot be recommended enough, as it is a reference book. Designed and written by a team of recognized scientists, at a level accessible to anyone who wants to know more, it provides a great deal of scientific information about the Chaîne.
